About us

Wine Cellar Specialists.

Our philosophy is to centre on offering a creative design service for wine and spirits to help both private and corporate clients and their architects, designers and agents realise their dreams in an achievable way.

Over the years we’ve seen quite a few creative and well-meaning but deeply flawed concepts. We’ve seen wine stored at the wrong angles, at the wrong temperature and wrong humidity. We’ve seen wine heated with corks popping out, wine racking that doesn’t fit the bottles or cases, wine racking that has collapsed under the weight and several cellars not usable for purpose in all manner of ways.

At the root of every wine cellar faux pas is the same root cause. Lack of knowledge.

With a reputation for creating genuinely distinctive wine and spirit storage crafted from an extensive range of different materials, Mark Dickens, Creative Director at Wine Architecture believes that a wine, spirit or cocktail space isn’t simply about creating a thing of beauty. He’s fanatical about anticipating potential issues and mitigating for usage requirements not anticipated within the original client brief.

In the world of wine and spirits designs, Mark’s mantra is most definitely form and function.

What elevates Mark and his WSET trained team above others is the ability to understand the needs and wants of the fine wine and spirit collector and stand in their shoes. Fully au fait with the technical requirements to artificially replicate the precise environmental conditions in which to keep wine, spirits and cigars and the experience to conceal the technical to allow beauty to shine centre stage.

Mark Dickens is one the UK’s leading designers of luxury wine and bottle storage, his wine and cocktail spaces proudly gracing some of the country’s smartest private residences and leading Michelin restaurants.

Both a Mechanical Engineering and Interior Design graduate, Mark began his career working in retail interior design managing Astound, one of the country’s largest independent retail design consulting agencies.  He went on to focus in residential design as COO at luxury residential lighting brand, John Cullen Lighting, where he honed his appreciation and knowledge of how lighting can be used to enhance a space.

Looking to marry his personal passion as a long-time fine wine collector and cocktail mixologist with his professional design background, Mark took the creative lead at Spiral Cellars leading the design of their bespoke wine rooms and wine walls.  Under his tenure, the bespoke business flourished, with his distinctive wine room designs given free reign under the company’s “wine cellars less ordinary” ethos.
